Choosing a shelter pet

Selecting the right pet for your home is an important decision to make together with all of the people who will care for the animal.

Adoption services

The adoption fee to take home you new fur-ever friend includes important vet care, spay or neuter services and helps to keep our shelter open.

Dog adoption fee: $155

Includes rabies vaccine, DHLPP (adults) or DHPP (puppies) vaccine, deworming and spay/neuter at our clinic.

Dog Licence fee for your township must also be paid and is not included in the fee.

Your 1st vet visit is free at our participating vet clinics for all adopted pets.

Making the decision to adopt a shelter pet is more than the adoption fee.

Stray Haven Humane Society & SPCA's is committed to finding the right home for every shelter animal in our care. Rehoming our shelter animals is such a rewarding job, and we take it seriously.  Stop by the Shelter to meet our adoptable dogs & cats!

The dog kennel area is limited to staff only, as people walking through can create stress for those dogs that are not picked. Our staff will bring the dog you want to meet to our Happy Tails area where you can decide if it's love at first sight.

At Stray Haven, over 300 animals are adopted every year. Animals are brought to the shelter from dog control (stray dogs) and from the public (owner relinquish or strays). We scan all new arrivals for microchips to try to reunite lost animals with their owners. Dogs are temperament tested prior to adoption. Adjusting a shelter animal to a new home takes time and patience, but if it doesn't work out, come back to the shelter so that we can help. Our pets are listed below and on Petfinder.com. Petfinder does not support Internet Explorer browser. We recommend Chrome or Firefox for best viewing! We are having some issues with the photos loading in petfinder so you can also use the link below to see our pets!
